PTI founder Imran Khan underwent a 20-minute eye procedure at PIMS on January 24, 2026.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has raised serious alarms regarding the health of its founder, Imran Khan, who was reportedly taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) over the weekend for an eye condition. Party leaders expressed deep concern that Khan is suffering from central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) in his right eye—a condition they claim could lead to permanent vision loss if not treated urgently by specialists.

Key Developments and Conflicting Reports:

  • The Procedure: PIMS Executive Director Professor Rana Imran Sikander confirmed that Khan was shifted to the hospital late Saturday night (Jan 24) for an anti-VEGF intra-vitreal injection. The procedure lasted approximately 20 minutes and was completed without complications.
  • Diagnosis: Following reduced vision in his right eye, a comprehensive assessment including an OCT scan of the retina—led to the CRVO diagnosis.
  • Government’s Stance: Information Minister Attaullah Tarar dismissed rumors of a “serious” condition, stating that Khan is “absolutely healthy” and the procedure was a routine follow-up recommended by specialists.
  • PTI’s Outrage: The opposition has condemned the “secretive” nature of the transfer, alleging that neither his family nor his personal physicians were informed. They are demanding unrestricted access to medical care at Shaukat Khanum Hospital.
  • Family’s Confusion: Khan’s sisters, Aleema and Uzma Khan, noted they were not officially informed of the diagnosis and expressed concern over the lack of direct communication with their brother.

While the government maintains that all medical protocols were followed with the patient’s written consent, the National Dialogue Committee and PTI leadership continue to push for an independent medical board to ensure transparency.
