PM Shehbaz Sharif Washington visit 2026

In a major diplomatic move, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to travel to Washington on February 19, 2026. The Prime Minister will lead Pakistan’s delegation at the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace (BoP), an international initiative chaired by U.S. President Donald Trump to address the ongoing crisis in Gaza.

Key Highlights of the High-Level Visit

  • Collective Muslim Voice: Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will accompany the PM. Pakistan will participate as part of a collective voice of eight Islamic-Arab nations—including Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the UAE—to advocate for Palestinian rights.
  • Gaza Reconstruction: A central theme of the Washington summit is fundraising and establishing mechanisms for the post-war reconstruction of Gaza.
  • Strategic Participation: Pakistan joined the BoP as a founding member in January 2026. The government views this framework as a way to support a permanent ceasefire and the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions.
  • Diplomatic Outreach: The visit follows the formal signing of the BoP Charter in Davos last month, where representatives from 19 countries initially joined the initiative.
  • Principled Stance: Pakistan will reiterate its commitment to a long-term solution based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al Quds Al Sharif as the capital of an independent Palestinian state.
