Imran Khan Al-Shifa Eye Hospital transfer

Al-Shifa Eye Trust Hospital in Rawalpindi has finalized extensive arrangements for the specialized medical care of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Expected to be shifted from Adiala Jail, the PTI founder is slated to receive treatment for a serious retinal condition at the hospital’s dedicated Vitreo-retina department.

Key Details of the Medical Arrangements

  • Dedicated Facilities: To accommodate the former premier and his extensive security requirements, the hospital has officially set aside 10 rooms.
  • Expert Medical Team: The specialized care will be led by Prof. Dr. Nadeem Qureshi, supported by a handpicked team of 10 medical experts.
  • Medical Diagnosis: Reports submitted to the Supreme Court indicate that Khan is suffering from Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO) in his right eye, a condition that has reportedly reduced his vision in that eye to roughly 15% to 25%.
  • Heightened Security: Strict protocols have been implemented, including the sealing of roads leading to the Administration Block and restricting all unauthorized access to ensure a secure environment for the high-profile patient.
  • Awaiting Final Orders: While all logistical and medical preparations are complete, the hospital and jail authorities are awaiting formal instructions from the government to initiate the transfer and procedure.

Context of the Transfer

The move comes after intense pressure from Khan’s family and a reported order from the Supreme Court for an independent medical assessment. While PTI leaders and Khan’s personal physicians, including Dr. Faisal Sultan and Dr. Aasim Yusuf, originally requested a transfer to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad, the government has finalized Al-Shifa Eye Trust as the “specialized medical institution” for his treatment.
