The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has officially set the Nisab for Zakat at Rs 503,529 for the year 1446-47 AH. This follows a formal notification from the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, fixing the threshold for the mandatory deduction of Zakat from bank accounts.
Important Details of the SBP Directive
- The Threshold: Zakat will be deducted only from accounts (Savings and Profit & Loss Sharing) that maintain a balance equal to or exceeding Rs 503,529 on the “valuation date”.
- Deduction Timing: The deduction is scheduled for the first day of Ramadan-ul-Mubarak 1447 AH, which is expected to occur on February 19 or 20, 2026, depending on the moon sighting.
- Applicable Accounts: This directive applies to all Commercial Banks, Development Finance Institutions (DFIs), and Microfinance Banks for qualifying accounts categorized under Asset Code 101.
- Mandatory Compliance: Financial institutions are required to deposit the collected funds immediately into the designated Central Zakat Fund Account No. CZ-08 at the SBP.
