On March 10, 2026, Pakistan will reach a pivotal milestone in its digital journey with the official 5G spectrum auction. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has finalized a competitive bidding process designed to modernize the country’s digital infrastructure and provide high-speed connectivity to millions.

Auction Participation and Financial Details

The auction has entered its final stage as major telecom operators begin fulfilling mandatory financial requirements:

Earnest Money Deposits: Leading operators Ufone and Zong have already secured their participation by depositing $15 million each as pre-bid earnest money, bringing the initial collection to $30 million.
Upcoming Participants: Jazz is expected to join the bidding shortly by depositing its required amount ahead of the final deadline.
Deadlines: Prospective bidders must submit their applications and earnest money by February 27, 2026. Qualified bidders will be announced on March 3, followed by mock auctions on March 5 to prepare for the main event.

Strategic Goals and Revenue

The government and PTA have set ambitious targets for this rollout to ensure market competition and service quality:

Spectrum Availability: The PTA is offering a total of 597 MHz across several bands (including 700, 2600, and 3500 MHz). The auction will be deemed successful if at least 50% (roughly 300 MHz) is sold.
Revenue Projections: Officials estimate the auction could fetch between $300 million and $700 million in non-tax revenue.
