FPCCI Rejects Fuel Price Hike: Calls for Emergency Tax Suspension to Save Industry.
FPCCI fuel price hike rejection
The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has officially rejected the recent record-breaking fuel price hike, characterizing it as a “death blow” to the nation’s industrial viability. With petrol reaching Rs 458 and diesel soaring to Rs 520, the business community is urgently demanding an emergency suspension of petroleum taxes to prevent a total economic collapse.
The Industry’s Warning Signs
FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh has highlighted several critical areas where the price hike will have an immediate and devastating impact:
- Export Competitiveness: High production and logistics costs are making Pakistani goods more expensive, pushing international buyers toward regional competitors.
- Agricultural Crisis: Farmers are struggling to afford diesel for harvesters and tube wells during the current peak season, threatening national food security.
- SME Vulnerability: Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) face potential bankruptcy as the doubling of transport and power costs erodes already thin margins.
- Hyperinflationary Pressure: Increased freight charges are expected to trigger instant price hikes for essential commodities, including flour, milk, and medicines.
