From Lahore to NYC: NCA Alumna Eeman Masood’s Animation Lights Up Times Square.
Eeman Masood Times Square animation
Pakistani artist and National College of Arts (NCA) alumna Eeman Masood has made history this February by showcasing her hand-painted animation at the iconic Times Square in New York City. Her work, titled “There is a voice that doesn’t use words, Listen,” is being featured as part of the prestigious Midnight Moment program, known as the world’s largest and longest-running digital public art exhibition.
Key Highlights of the Masterpiece
- Monumental Display: The animation is screened nightly throughout February 2026, from 11:57 PM to 12:00 AM, across 92 to 96 digital billboards stretching from 41st to 49th Streets.
- Intricate Artistry: Every frame was meticulously hand-painted over several months, blending Masood’s training in traditional miniature painting and watercolors with modern digital animation.
- Lahore Inspiration: At the heart of the piece is a majestic banyan tree, native to Lahore, Pakistan. The motif was inspired by a 2023 visit to her hometown, where Masood observed the tree’s quiet resilience and “generosity even in adversity”.
- Visual Symbols: The animation features shimmering life particles and colorful peacocks encircling the ancient tree, blurring the lines between the earthly and the divine.
- Original Soundtrack: The visual experience is accompanied by a custom score featuring the flute and santur, composed specifically for the project by Masood’s friend and NCA senior, Mujeeb.

This achievement positions Masood as a bridge between Pakistani creative traditions and the global digital art stage.
