Zubair Motiwala Lauds Pakistan’s Diplomatic Triumph; Calls for Immediate Economic Fixes.
Zubair Motiwala U.S.-Iran ceasefire
Zubair Motiwala, Chairman of the Businessmen Group (BMG), has hailed Pakistan’s successful mediation of the U.S.-Iran ceasefire as a landmark achievement that has saved the world from a much wider conflict. He noted that while other nations attempted to intervene, Pakistan took the lead to “achieve the impossible”.
Demands for Economic Reform
With regional stability returning, Motiwala is urging the government to pivot toward aggressive economic recovery through the following measures:
- Energy Security: Resuming progress on the Iran-Pakistan Gas Pipeline to secure affordable energy for the country.
- Export Support: Restoring the Zero-Rating status for exporters to resolve the ongoing cash-flow crisis.
- Fair Import Valuation: Shifting to Ex-Works valuation for imports to ensure businesses are not taxed on war-inflated shipping costs.
- Industrial Relief: Immediate release of Rs 33 billion in pending electricity relief specifically for Karachi’s industrial sector.
