Key Policy Changes
The new framework introduces specialized handling and increased flexibility across several cargo sectors:
- Automotive Logistics: Approval has been granted for specialized Ro-Ro (Roll-on/Roll-off) operations to ensure faster processing for cars and SUVs.
- Bulk Cargo Expansion: Pakistani ports are now authorized to handle transshipment for bulk commodities, including grains, coal, and minerals.
- Small Shipment Flexibility: New provisions for Less than Container Load (LCL) shipments provide enhanced support for smaller traders and transit cargo destined for Central Asia.
- Capturing Diverted Traffic: The policy strategically positions Pakistan to capture a larger share of maritime traffic currently diverting through other regional waters.
