Punjab Sets Historic Record with Rs368 Billion Tax Collection.
The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has achieved a historic milestone by collecting Rs368 billion in taxes during the fiscal year 2025–26, exceeding its revenue target and recording the highest annual tax collection since its establishment.
According to data released by the PRA, tax collection surged by Rs97 billion compared to the previous fiscal year, rising from Rs270 billion in 2024–25 to over Rs367 billion. This reflects an impressive 36 percent annual growth rate. The authority also concluded the fiscal year on an exceptionally strong note by pulling in more than Rs48.5 billion in June alone.
Key Performance Drivers
The vast majority of the revenue generated came directly from the service sector, highlighting expanding formalization across the province:
- Punjab Sales Tax on Services: Accounted for Rs361 billion of the total collection.
- Tax Base Expansion: The taxpayer base increased by 18 percent, bringing in 26,700 new registered taxpayers into the system.
Commitment to Digital Reforms
PRA Chairman Moazzam Iqbal Sipra described the achievement as a watershed moment in the authority’s history. He emphasized that the PRA delivered exceptional performance despite challenging economic conditions, including regional tensions and reduced business hours.
He credited the historic success to the unwavering structural support of the Punjab government, the strategic leadership of the Chief Minister, and the growing confidence of the business community and taxpayers.
Looking ahead, the Government of Punjab has set an ambitious revenue target of Rs528 billion for the upcoming fiscal year 2026–27. The Chairman reaffirmed the PRA’s commitment to aggressively broadening the tax base, promoting voluntary tax compliance, and accelerating comprehensive digital reforms across all commercial sectors in the province.
