Standard Chartered Pakistan appoints Adil Salahuddin CEO

Standard Chartered Bank (Pakistan) Limited has officially announced the appointment of Adil Salahuddin as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Director. The high-profile leadership transition was disclosed through a formal regulatory filing submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Monday.

While the bank’s Board of Directors has formally approved the transition, Salahuddin will officially assume operational charge of the bank upon receiving the necessary regulatory clearances and Fit-and-Proper Test (FPT) approvals from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). Until the regulatory clearance process is finalized, Rehan Shaikh will continue to serve in his current capacity as the bank’s CEO to ensure a seamless leadership handover.

A Veteran Career in Global Corporate Banking

Salahuddin brings more than three decades of extensive banking and financial services experience to the leadership position, having spent 25 years climbing the executive ranks within the Standard Chartered Group. Over his tenure with the international banking group, he has held key senior positions traversing Markets, Coverage, and Transaction Banking across multiple continents.

Prior to this appointment, Salahuddin served as the Head of Coverage in Pakistan for the past four months, and previously held the position of Head of Markets in Pakistan for five years before moving to Dubai in 2021 for a regional role managing the Corporate Sales business across the Middle East, Pakistan, and Africa.

His professional footprint spans diverse regulatory and commercial environments, including leadership assignments in:

  • Pakistan
  • United Arab Emirates (UAE)
  • Saudi Arabia (KSA)
  • The Middle East & Africa (MEA) regions

Strategic Commitment to the Market

Commenting on the transition, Rola Abu Manneh, Chief Executive Officer of UAE, Middle East, and Pakistan at Standard Chartered, emphasized that the appointment reflects the group’s continued commitment to the country. As Pakistan remains one of the bank’s oldest international franchises—operating since 1863—this global institutional exposure is expected to drive Standard Chartered Pakistan’s strategic expansion, digital banking transition, and corporate portfolio management as the bank strengthens its positioning within the domestic financial landscape.
