Pakistan’s deficit on trade in goods and services stood at $3,374 million in July 2026, provisional figures from the State Bank of Pakistan show.

The gap was wider than the $2,983 million deficit recorded in July of the previous year.

Merchandise Trade Performance

Goods exports (FOB) increased to $3,008 million from $2,750 million a year earlier.

Goods imports, however, rose more sharply to $6,154 million from $5,429 million.

The resulting merchandise trade deficit reached $3,146 million.

Services Trade Details

Exports of services climbed to $927 million, up from $728 million in July 2025.

Telecommunications, computer and information services contributed $417 million.

Other business services added $218 million, while travel receipts stood at $112 million.

Services imports totalled $1,155 million. Transport remained the largest component at $438 million, followed by travel at $291 million.

The services trade deficit narrowed slightly to $228 million from $304 million in the corresponding month of the previous year.

For the full fiscal year 2026, total exports of goods and services were $40,841 million, almost unchanged from $40,793 million in FY25.

Goods exports declined to $30,821 million while services exports rose to $10,020 million.

Imports of goods and services climbed to $76,490 million from $70,432 million, pushing the annual deficit to $35,649 million from $29,639 million.

Within services, telecommunications, computer and information services remained the strongest export category, reaching $4,600 million for the year.

Travel receipts also improved to $1,116 million.

On the import side, transport and travel continued to account for the bulk of outflows.

The data highlights the persistent challenge of a large merchandise deficit that services earnings have only partially offset.

Policymakers are expected to monitor import growth closely while seeking further gains in high-value service exports.

The July numbers are provisional and may be revised in subsequent releases.
