The tenure of Rehmat Ali Hasnie as President and Chief Executive Officer of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) expired on Friday, August 21, 2026, according to a notice issued by the bank to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).

Hasnie’s latest appointment was a two-week extension granted earlier this month after his regular term ended. The government had also considered him among potential candidates for a permanent three-year term as NBP president and CEO.

Hasnie was officially appointed as NBP president in August 2023. He has been associated with the bank since 2010 and has held senior executive positions, including head of investment banking, corporate banking, and priority-sector lending.

He possesses more than 25 years of experience in economics research, capital markets, investment banking, treasury, and credit markets.

The end of Hasnie’s tenure marks the beginning of a leadership transition at Pakistan’s largest state-owned commercial bank, with NBP confirming that Senior Executive Vice President Abdul Wahid Sethi has been assigned interim charge of the President and CEO office for three months while the formal appointment process is completed.
