✧ GENERATE BRIEFING

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb has departed for Bangkok, Thailand, leading Pakistan’s official delegation to the World Bank Group–IMF Annual Meetings 2026 (scheduled for October 12–18). The finance minister’s itinerary comprises over 60 high-level engagements aimed at pivoting Pakistan from recent macroeconomic stabilization toward sustainable, private-sector-led, and export-driven growth. The multi-pronged diplomatic and financial mission focuses on five primary pillars: Multilateral & Institutional Leadership: High-level dialogues with executive leaders from the IMF, World Bank, International Finance Corporation (IFC), Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), and OPEC Fund. Credit Rating Agency Reviews: Consultations with the three major global sovereign rating agencies Fitch Ratings, Moody’s, and S&P Global to present verified progress on fiscal consolidation, revenue collection reforms, and structural debt management. Capital Market & Investment Banks: Direct briefings with global investment giants, including JPMorgan, Citi, Deutsche Bank, Standard Chartered, Barclays, Bank of America, and MUFG, to outline commercial investment frameworks and market-access conditions.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb is departing for Bangkok, Thailand, to lead Pakistan’s delegation to the World Bank Group–IMF Annual Meetings 2026, scheduled for October 12–18, with more than 60 high-level engagements planned with international financial institutions, investors and policymakers.

According to a Press Information Department (PID) press release issued on October 10, Aurangzeb will discuss Pakistan’s economic outlook, structural reforms, investment opportunities and future cooperation with leadership from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank Group, International Finance Corporation and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency.

The finance minister will also meet counterparts from Saudi Arabia, China, Türkiye, Iran, the United Kingdom and Thailand to strengthen bilateral trade, investment and development cooperation. Discussions with the US Department of the Treasury are also planned to advance economic ties and present Pakistan’s reform agenda.

Engagement with Capital Markets and Rating Agencies

A major focus of the visit will be engagement with global investors and capital markets. Aurangzeb is scheduled to meet representatives of major financial institutions, including JPMorgan, Citi, Deutsche Bank, Standard Chartered, Barclays, Bank of America and MUFG, to highlight Pakistan’s economic prospects and investment potential.

The minister will also hold meetings with Fitch Ratings, Moody’s and S&P Global, the three major international sovereign credit rating agencies, to present Pakistan’s progress on macroeconomic stabilisation, fiscal management and structural reforms.

His programme includes discussions with multilateral development institutions such as the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, Saudi Fund for Development, Japan International Cooperation Agency and OPEC Fund for International Development. Engagements with Alibaba International Digital Commerce will focus on Pakistan’s digital economy, e-commerce and investment opportunities.

Global Policy Forums and Economic Outlook

Aurangzeb will participate in several international policy forums, including the G-24 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting, the V20 Ministerial Dialogue and the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action. He will also attend discussions on sovereign risks, job creation and converting demographic change into human-capital development.

The visit comes as Pakistan seeks to move beyond macroeconomic stabilisation towards investment- and export-led growth. The government aims to use international engagement to attract capital, expand private-sector activity, strengthen exports and create employment.

The finance minister will also meet international media organisations, including Reuters, Bloomberg, Nikkei Asia, The Wall Street Journal and AFP, to discuss Pakistan’s economic outlook and reform priorities.

The PID said the visit reflects the government’s efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s engagement with the international financial community and translate improved macroeconomic stability into investment, productivity and sustainable economic growth.
