Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi orders immediate clearance of land for Islamabad's new convention centre.

In a major step toward enhancing Pakistan’s diplomatic infrastructure, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi conducted an on-site inspection of the proposed location for a new international-standard convention centre in Islamabad on Friday, January 30, 2026. Following the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, this project aims to provide a modern facility for global summits and prestigious events.Key Developments from the Visit:

  • Strategic Location: Accompanied by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa and Deputy Commissioner Irfan Memon, Naqvi assessed the site located near Murree Road and the Bhara Kahu Bypass (near Malpur).
  • Strict Enforcement: The Minister issued immediate orders for the clearance of all illegal occupations and the indiscriminate demolition of unauthorized constructions on the state land.
  • No Compensation for Encroachers: Reinforcing a firm stance, Naqvi declared that no leniency, concession, or compensation would be provided to those occupying the land unlawfully.
  • Project Vision: The Rs 19.3 billion facility (NICEEC) is designed to strengthen Pakistan’s role in global forums, facilitating large-scale events like the SCO Summit 2027.
  • Global Standing: Naqvi described the project as essential for delivering world-class infrastructure, noting that it will elevate Islamabad’s global standing and serve as a long-term revenue-generating asset.
The project, which received PC-I approval recently, has a completion timeline of 18 months and is expected to dovetail with the proposed downtown development projects in the future.
