Pakistan Customs staff at Jinnah International Airport (JIAP), Karachi, has successfully intercepted a significant smuggling attempt involving gold jewellery and high-end luxury items. The operation, conducted on Thursday, January 29, 2026, resulted in the recovery of goods valued at approximately Rs. 58 million.

Key Details of the Seizure:

  • The Interception: A passenger arriving from the United States via Etihad Airways (a Middle Eastern carrier) attempted to bypass customs using the “Green Channel”.
  • Profiling & Discovery: Based on profiling and suspicion, officials diverted the passenger to the “Red Channel” for scanning. The machine revealed a commercial quantity of undeclared goods.
  • Recovered Items: Upon physical examination, officials found 1,185 grams of gold jewellery along with a commercial haul of branded perfumes, cosmetics, and handbags.
  • Legal Action: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) confirmed that a jeweler verified the gold’s weight and value. An FIR has been registered under the Customs Act, 1969, and a detailed investigation is underway.
