A massive 55-metre portrait of Hind Rajab displayed in Barcelona to mark the second anniversary of her death.

In a deeply emotional tribute on Somorrostro Beach, Barcelona, hundreds of protesters gathered to unfurl a massive 1,000-square-metre (55-metre-long) portrait of Hind Rajab. The event, held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, marked the second anniversary of the tragic day in 2024 when the five-year-old was killed by Israeli forces in Gaza.

A Mother’s Heartbreaking Appeal

Hind’s mother, Wesam Hamada, attended the ceremony and delivered a powerful message to the international community.

  • “The children of Gaza do not ask for pity,” she stated. “They ask for their right to live, to sleep without fear, to play without bombs, and to grow up.”.
  • She emphasized that Hind’s voice has traveled across borders, serving as a symbol for thousands of other children lost in the conflict.

“The Voice of Hind Rajab”: From Gaza to the Oscars

The protest also celebrated the international recognition of Hind’s story through the film The Voice of Hind Rajab.

  • Oscar Nomination: Directed by Kaouther Ben Hania, the film has been nominated for Best International Feature Film at the 2026 Academy Awards.
  • Executive Producers: The project is backed by high-profile figures including Joaquin Phoenix, Brad Pitt, and Jonathan Glazer.
  • Artistic Impact: The film uses the original audio of Hind’s final call to the Red Crescent, preserving her terrified pleas for the world to hear.

The Symbolic Protest

Protesters in Barcelona held a giant Palestinian flag alongside the portrait and the message “Free Gaza’s Children”. Organizers stated that the action sought to break the “international silence” and urge immediate global action to protect civilians under the ongoing blockade.
