Medina earns WHO re-accreditation as a "Healthy City" with an impressive score of 80 points.

In a proud moment for the Muslim Ummah, Medina has been officially recognized as one of the World’s Healthiest Cities by the World Health Organization (WHO). After first earning this prestigious status in 2019, the holy city successfully achieved re-accreditation in August 2025, securing an impressive score of 80 points.Key Highlights of the Achievement:

  • Rigorous Standards: To win the WHO’s nod, Medina met 80 strict criteria across nine core areas, including public participation, environmental sustainability, and healthcare promotion.
  • Urban Excellence: The evaluation considered the availability of parks, walking spaces, advanced primary healthcare centers, and health programs in schools.
  • Regional Ranking: Medina now stands as the second-largest Healthy City in the Middle East with a population of over one million, following Jeddah.
  • Collaborative Effort: The accreditation was made possible through the cooperation of 22 government, community, and volunteer agencies, including a strategic partnership with Taibah University.
  • Vision 2030: This recognition aligns with the “Vibrant Society” pillar of Saudi Vision 2030, which prioritizes the well-being and livability of residents and millions of pilgrims.
Prince Salman bin Sultan, Governor of the Medina region, received the official certificate from the Minister of Health, Fahad Al-Jalajel, emphasizing that the city is evolving into a leading international model for sustainable development.
