Ramadan 2026: Saudi Arabia Issues Strict Guidelines for Mosques and Prayer Conduct.
Spiritual Focus: Saudi Arabia reiterates ban on outdoor loudspeakers for Ramadan prayers to ensure tranquility.
As the holy month of Ramadan 1447 AH (2026) approaches, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah, and Guidance has confirmed a set of comprehensive guidelines to prepare mosques nationwide. Minister Sheikh Abdullatif Al Sheikh confirmed that mosques across the Kingdom will not be permitted to use external loudspeakers to broadcast prayers.
Key Guidelines for Ramadan 2026:
- Loudspeaker Restrictions: The use of outdoor loudspeakers is strictly limited to the Adhan (call to prayer) and the Iqama (second call) only. All congregational prayers must be conducted using indoor sound systems to minimize noise beyond mosque premises.
- Prayer Timings: Mosques must strictly adhere to the official Umm Al-Qura calendar. The interval between the Adhan and Iqama for Isha and Fajr prayers is set at 15 minutes to facilitate congregation attendance.
- Organized Iftar: Iftar meals for fasting worshippers must be organized exclusively in designated courtyard areas. The collection of cash donations for these programs is explicitly banned; instead, they should be arranged through official, transparent channels.
- Tahajjud Prayers: During the last ten nights of Ramadan, Tahajjud prayers should conclude well before dawn (Suhoor) to avoid causing hardship for worshippers.
- Mosque Facilities: Caretakers have been instructed to intensify cleaning and safety measures, with particular attention to women’s prayer areas.
- Prohibited Actions: Live broadcasting of prayers via media platforms is banned. Additionally, begging inside or around mosques is strictly prohibited, and staff must report violators to security authorities.
These measures are designed to ensure a calm, organized, and spiritually enriching environment while maintaining respect for surrounding residential communities throughout the holy month.
