The Surge of the ID Series

The success of Volkswagen’s year was largely driven by a broad portfolio and the explosive growth of specific models:

ID.7: The new sedan and wagon saw growth of more than 137%, with over 76,000 units sold.
ID.4 & ID.3: These models remained core pillars, with the ID.4 SUV selling over 80,000 units.
MEB Platform: Strong performances from sister brands, such as the Skoda Enyaq and Cupra Born, further solidified the Volkswagen Group’s dominance.

Tesla’s Struggles in Europe

On the other hand, Tesla experienced a sharp 27% decline in registrations, falling to 236,357 units. Analysts attribute this drop to several factors:

Aging Lineup: A lack of fresh models compared to the rapidly diversifying European and Chinese competition.
Market Backlash: Consumer concerns regarding Elon Musk’s political endorsements were cited as a contributing factor in the region.
Individual Winner: Despite the brand’s overall decline, the Tesla Model Y still managed to remain the best-selling individual EV model in Europe with over 151,000 registrations.

A Maturing Market

The broader European EV market continues to grow, with registrations rising 29% overall in 2025. This signals a maturing market where traditional giants are successfully accelerating their electrification efforts to compete with pure-play EV manufacturers.
