Walee PSL franchise acquisition

In a landmark achievement for Pakistan’s tech and sports landscape, Walee Technologies has made history by acquiring the former Multan PSL franchise for a record-breaking Rs 2.45 billion on February 9, 2026. This monumental success, achieved under the leadership of Chaudhary Waqas Ramzan (Director at Walee) and CEO Ahsan Tahir, marks the most expensive franchise sale in the history of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

The Historic “Rawalpindi” Rebrand

The acquisition sets a new benchmark for franchise valuations as the league enters its 11th season:

  • Record Bid: Walee Technologies emerged victorious in a fiercely competitive auction at the Expo Centre Lahore, outbidding four other pre-qualified groups with a final bid of Rs 2.45 billion—well above the Rs 1.82 billion base price.
  • New Identity: Following the purchase, Walee confirmed the team will be rebranded and relocated to Rawalpindi, effectively moving the franchise’s home base to the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium for PSL 11.
  • Commercial Milestone: This deal underscores Walee’s rapid growth from a MarTech startup to a global enterprise spanning media, finance, and digital infrastructure.

Leadership Behind the Growth

Chaudhary Waqas Ramzan, currently the Director of the Monetization Layer Division at Walee, has been a key pillar in the company’s growth trajectory:

  • Career Evolution: Since joining in 2021, Waqas has risen through the ranks from Growth Head and Senior Vice President to his current directorate role.
  • Strategic Execution: His discipline in execution has helped WALEE secure major milestones, including previous digital rights for PSL 9 and 10, and the successful launch of the Shariah-compliant nano-financing service, Hakeem.
