Sheikh Mohammed Launches AED 1 Billion “Edge of Life” Campaign to Save 5 Million Children.
UAE Edge of Life Ramadan campaign
In a significant humanitarian move for Ramadan 1447 AH (2026), His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has launched the “11.5: Edge of Life” campaign (also referred to as “Had Al Hayat”). This life-saving initiative aims to rescue five million children worldwide from the devastating impacts of hunger and severe malnutrition.
Key Details of the Noble Initiative
- Target Population: The campaign specifically targets children under the age of five who are in the most vulnerable communities, particularly those affected by natural disasters and conflicts.
- The “11.5” Symbolism: The name refers to 11.5 cm, the critical mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) measurement used medically to diagnose acute malnutrition in children. This clinical indicator represents the “edge of life” where immediate intervention is required to prevent death.
- Funding Goal: The initiative seeks to mobilize at least AED 1 billion (approximately $272 million) through contributions from individuals and institutions both locally and internationally.
- Global Collaboration: Led by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), the drive is partnered with major international organizations including UNICEF, Save the Children, Action Against Hunger, and the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF).
- Broader Impact: Beyond immediate rescue, the strategy aims to shield an additional 30 million children from the threat of hunger through sustainable long-term projects.
- A Tradition of Giving: This campaign follows previous successful Ramadan drives such as the “1 Billion Meals” and the “Mothers’ Endowment” fund, reflecting the UAE’s enduring legacy of global philanthropy.
