In a historic diplomatic milestone, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in Vienna, Austria, for a high-profile two-day official visit from February 15-16, 2026. This trip, undertaken at the invitation of Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker, marks the first visit by a Pakistani head of government to Austria in over three decades, with the last being in 1992.
Key Highlights of the Vienna Summit
- 70 Years of Diplomacy: The visit officially celebrates the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Austria.
- Bilateral & Delegation-Level Talks: PM Shehbaz will hold extensive discussions with Chancellor Stocker at the Federal Chancellery to take stock of the entire gamut of bilateral relations, with a focus on trade and investment.
- Economic Boost & Business Forum: The Prime Minister will chair the Pakistan-Austria Business Forum, organized by the Austrian Economic Chamber (WKO). A key outcome expected is the pilot of a “fast-track desk” for Pakistani tech firms to facilitate business-visa processing.
- UN & Global Engagement: PM Shehbaz is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at a special United Nations event in Vienna titled “Sustainable Development: The Path to Global Peace and Prosperity”.
- Nuclear & Multilateral Cooperation: High-level meetings are on the agenda with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to discuss the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. He will also engage with the leadership of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and UNIDO.
