The government continued to expand technology-driven governance and public safety initiatives during fiscal year 2025-26, with the Safe City Programme growing to 1,325 surveillance cameras across Karachi and the introduction of advanced artificial intelligence-based monitoring systems.
According to official data, the network was supported by facial recognition, automatic number plate recognition and intelligent traffic monitoring technologies aimed at creating a smarter and more secure urban environment.
The AI-based faceless e-ticketing system issued more than 1.078 million electronic tickets during the year and collected Rs840.7 million in fines. Authorities said the system also contributed to a noticeable decline in traffic accidents, fatalities and injuries.
Law and order indicators showed marked improvement during the period. Vehicular theft and snatching cases fell by 67%, while violent street robberies declined by 54%. The overall crime detection rate improved to 81%, reflecting enhanced policing and surveillance capabilities.
The Counter Terrorism Department’s Fusion Centre further strengthened intelligence-led policing through digital investigations and greater coordination among law enforcement agencies.
Officials said the continued adoption of technology and data-driven policing was aimed at improving urban security and enhancing public service delivery in the country’s largest city.
