A tragic accident in Mehran Town claims the life of a 5-year-old child, sparking outrage over heavy traffic.

Karachi’s Korangi Mehran Town was struck by tragedy on January 27, 2026, when a speeding water tanker crushed a 5-year-old boy to death. The heart-wrenching incident occurred near Chhapra Hotel on Street No. 2, Sector B-6, sparking fresh outrage among citizens regarding the unregulated movement of heavy vehicles in residential areas.

The deceased has been identified as Zeeshan, son of Ahmed Solangi, a resident of the same area and the third of five siblings. According to eyewitnesses and traffic police, the driver was “carelessly” reversing or speeding when he ran over the young boy, killing him on the spot.

Police Action & Investigation:

  • Driver Status: The driver, identified as Javed who was also a neighbor of the victim initially managed to flee the scene but was later apprehended by the police.
  • Impounded Vehicle: Authorities have impounded the water tanker and taken the driver’s brother into custody for further investigation.
  • Legal Formalities: The child’s body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for legal procedures before being handed over to the grieving family.

This tragedy adds to a grim trend; heavy vehicles, including water tankers and dumper trucks, were responsible for a significant share of the 800+ traffic fatalities recorded in Karachi during 2025 alone.
