Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched the “One App” for digital traffic e-challans, a transformative initiative aimed at modernizing traffic enforcement and ensuring 100% transparency across Punjab. This move represents the first major overhaul of the province’s traffic management systems in over six decades, shifting from manual, paper-based procedures to a fully integrated digital platform.

Key Features of the “One App”

The application provides traffic officers with a centralized toolkit for real-time enforcement and verification:

  • Secure Video Evidence: The system records and stores video evidence of violations to reduce false complaints and provide a transparent review process.
  • Instant Roadside Verification: Officers can instantly verify ID cards, driving licenses, and check for stolen vehicle records through direct access to digital databases.
  • Comprehensive Documentation: The app allows for immediate validation of vehicle ownership, fitness certificates, and route permits during inspections.
  • Expanded Enforcement: Beyond traffic, the platform integrates tools to take digital action against encroachments and environmental violations.
  • Criminal Database Access: For enhanced security, officers can check FIR status and criminal records on the spot.

Strict New Reforms and Penalties

The initiative is accompanied by significant legislative and operational changes to improve road safety:

  • Habitual Offenders: Under the new reforms, vehicles belonging to repeat violators may be subject to auction.
  • Increased Fines: Penalties for serious traffic violations have been raised significantly, reaching up to Rs 15,000, with the possibility of immediate license suspension.
  • Victim Compensation: The government has mandated the immediate payment of Diyat (compensation) to the families of accident victims.
  • Infrastructure Deadlines: A 30-day deadline has been set to streamline traffic flow through redesigned U-turns and smarter road management.
