A widespread heatwave across France has disrupted transport and education, leading to the cancellation of multiple train services and forcing several schools to modify schedules or suspend classes, as temperatures are expected to reach up to 40°C in the coming days.

Authorities have issued an orange weather alert for roughly a quarter of the country, including Paris, and urged residents to take precautions, stay hydrated, and avoid outdoor activity during peak heat hours.

Météo-France said the hot spell is expected to persist into next week, with temperatures likely peaking on Sunday or Monday. The capital and surrounding regions could see highs approaching 40°C.

Separately, climate monitoring data from the Copernicus Climate Change Service showed that global surface air and sea temperatures in May ranked as the second-highest on record.
