Multan records 104% tax recovery, exceeding annual revenue target
MULTAN — The Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department (ET&NC) of the Multan division has successfully surpassed its annual revenue target for the fiscal year 2025–26, recording an overall tax recovery of 104%.
Official data indicates that the department collected over Rs 5.37 billion against the assigned target of Rs 5.15 billion set by the Punjab government. The surplus collection highlights a strong fiscal performance driven primarily by motor vehicle and excise duty revenues.
Revenue Breakdown
The exceptional recovery rate was spearheaded by significant over-performance in specific tax categories, while real estate and infrastructure levies saw slightly lower yields:
- Motor Vehicle Tax: Recorded a 123% recovery, generating Rs 3.38 billion against a target of Rs 2.75 billion.
- Excise Duty: Exceeded expectations at 122%, bringing in Rs 150 million against the Rs 122.5 million target.
- Property Tax: Reached 83% of its target, collecting Rs 1.64 billion against the anticipated Rs 1.97 billion.
- Luxury House Tax: Achieved a 96% recovery, with Rs 71 million collected against a Rs 74 million goal.
- Professional Tax: Stood at 65%, generating Rs 109 million against the assigned Rs 167 million.
- Highway Tax: Yielded 68% of the target, collecting Rs 54.2 million against Rs 79 million.
District-Level Performance
Across the division, tax compliance and collection efficiency remained robust. The districts of Vehari and Lodhran shared the top position, each recording a 107% recovery rate. Multan district followed closely at 104%, while Khanewal reported a 103% recovery.
Local ET&NC officials attributed the record-breaking collection to the dedication of the department’s staff and the growing trust of local taxpayers, particularly within the business community. Recent digital reforms aimed at improving the transparency of tax assessments and streamlining payment processes were cited as key factors in encouraging compliance and facilitating the historic surplus.
