✧ GENERATE BRIEFING +
Habib Bank Limited (HBL) has officially commemorated 50 years of continuous operations in Bangladesh, marking half a century of facilitating regional trade, cross-border investments, and institutional financial flows. Established in the country in 1976, HBL marked the milestone with a high-profile anniversary ceremony in Dhaka. The event was attended by key regulatory authorities, corporate clients, and senior leadership figures—including HBL Chairman Sultan Ali Allana, President & CEO Muhammad Nassir Salim, Head of International Farhan Talib, and Bangladesh Country Manager Alamgir Morshed. As part of its long-term regional growth strategy, HBL is heavily leveraging its international network to bridge economic corridors across South Asia, China, the Middle East, and Africa. Highlighting its competitive positioning, HBL remains one of only three banking institutions originating from South Asia and the MENA region to offer end-to-end RMB/CNY intermediation services in China. This capability allows HBL Bangladesh to deliver specialized Renminbi account services and directly support bilateral trade flows, state-owned enterprise engagements, and corporate investments tied to emerging trade corridors.
Habib Bank Limited (HBL) has completed 50 years of operations in Bangladesh, marking five decades of involvement in the country’s banking, trade and investment activity.
HBL began operations in Bangladesh in 1976 and has since developed a presence supporting businesses and financial institutions involved in domestic and international markets. The bank said its Bangladesh operations have grown alongside its customers and helped facilitate trade and financial flows across borders.
The anniversary was marked with a ceremony in Dhaka attended by HBL Chairman Sultan Ali Allana, President and CEO Muhammad Nassir Salim, Head of International Farhan Talib and Bangladesh Country Manager Alamgir Morshed, along with clients and regulators.
HBL described Bangladesh as an important market within its international network, linking businesses and capital across South Asia, China, the Middle East and Africa. The bank sees these connections as increasingly relevant as regional trade corridors develop.
A key part of HBL’s current offering in Bangladesh is RMB/CNY account services for clients. HBL said it is among only three banks from the South Asia and MENA regions providing end-to-end RMB intermediation in China, allowing it to support cross-border transactions with Chinese companies and financial institutions.
The bank said Bangladesh’s focus on attracting foreign investment and expanding international trade is creating opportunities for greater financial connectivity, particularly along emerging China–Middle East–South Asia trade corridors.
HBL’s 50-year presence also reflects its broader regional strategy of supporting companies operating across multiple markets through trade finance, investment-related services and cross-border banking.
As Bangladesh continues to pursue international trade and investment opportunities, HBL said its international network positions the bank to support businesses seeking connections between Bangladesh and major markets across Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
