KSE-100 index Pakistan Stock Exchange
✧ GENERATE BRIEFING

The Pakistan Stock Exchange closed lower as late-session selling dragged the KSE-100 index down by 825.22 points to settle at 169,600.40. The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) faced renewed selling pressure on Tuesday, resulting in the benchmark KSE-100 Index shedding 825.22 points (-0.48%) to close the session at 169,600.40 points. Although the market initially attempted a recovery and touched an intraday high of 170,944.34, heavy late-session sell-offs across major commercial banks, exploration and production heavyweights, and fertilizer stocks erased morning gains. Investor sentiment remained dampened by broader macroeconomic headwinds, including global bond yield volatility, regional geopolitical tensions impacting energy flows, and ongoing discussions regarding macroeconomic performance under the IMF review framework.

The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) closed lower on Tuesday after late-session selling pushed the benchmark KSE-100 Index down 825.22 points, or 0.48%, to 169,600.40 points.

The market started on a firmer note, with the index climbing to an intraday high of 170,944.34 points. However, the momentum faded as trading progressed, with the benchmark remaining largely range-bound through the late morning and early afternoon.

Selling pressure intensified sharply after 2:00 PM, dragging the KSE-100 down to an intraday low of 169,538.22 points near the close before a minor recovery cushioned the final drop.

Sector-wise Performance and Major Drags

  • Commercial Banks: Led the market downturn with a negative contribution of 216.60 points, with major institutional heavyweights facing profit-taking. UBL alone shaved off 127.47 points.
  • Oil & Gas Exploration: Continued to feel the pinch of regional energy volatility, subtracting 147.80 points led by drops in PPL and MARI.
  • Fertilizer & Cement: Dropped 106.91 points and 61.75 points respectively, weighed down by FFC (-86.96 pts).

Counter-support remained thin, though selective buying in chemicals (led by LOTCHEM) and minor gains in tobacco and paper boards helped absorb some of the pressure. Total market volume contracted to 568.03 million shares valued at Rs20.81 billion, down from the previous session.

Macro Pressures and Outlook

Investor sentiment remains cautious amidst ongoing Middle East uncertainties, tracking global crude movements and surging US Treasury yields. Locally, market participants continue to monitor the economic fallout discussed with visiting IMF review missions regarding trade, revenue targets, and industrial energy adjustments.
