The Asian Development Bank (ADB) today opened the voting process for its President for a 5-year term beginning on 24 November 2026.

The ADB Board of Governors was invited to submit nominations for the presidency from 1 June to 1 July 2026. Current ADB President Masato Kanda has emerged as the sole nominee for the position.

Key Election Timeline and Voting Framework

The election process follows strict statutory guidelines outlined in the bank’s operational framework:

  • Voting Period: Voting by the ADB Board of Governors on Mr. Kanda’s candidacy will take place from 2 July to 31 August 2026.
  • Charter Requirements: In electing a President, the ADB Charter requires a majority of the total number of Governors, representing a majority of the total voting power of ADB members.
  • Result Announcement: The final outcome of the election process is expected to be officially announced on 1 September 2026.
