Mari Energies awards Spinwam, Waziristan Block, gas sale contract to Universal Gas Distribution.

Mari Energies Limited (formerly Mari Petroleum Company Limited) has issued a Letter of Award (LoA) to Universal Gas Distribution Company (Pvt) Ltd for the sale of natural gas from its Spinwam Gas Discovery in the Waziristan Block, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The company formally disclosed the material development in a notification to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on August 3, 2026.

Bidding Outcome and Contract Volume

The issuance of the LoA follows a competitive tender process initiated through an Invitation to Bid floated on May 15, 2026. Universal Gas Distribution Company emerged as the successful bidder for the gas off-take.

Under the contract terms, the agreement covers the sale of up to 17.5 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) of natural gas from the Spinwam discovery.

Regulatory Approvals and Framework

Both entities will now proceed to secure the necessary statutory and regulatory approvals before commercial supply can commence.

The transaction is being executed under the Framework for Sale of Gas to Third Parties, which was officially notified by the government under S.R.O. 11(I)/2025 on January 7, 2025.

Joint Venture Structure

Mari Energies operates the Waziristan Block with a 55 percent working interest. The joint venture partnership includes:

• Mari Energies Limited: Operator (55% working interest)
• Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL): Joint venture partner (35% working interest)
• Orient Petroleum Inc.: Joint venture partner (10% working interest)

The disclosure was officially signed and submitted by Company Secretary Brigadier Sumair Ashraf Sheikh (Retd). The contract award represents a major step toward commercializing the Spinwam discovery, enhancing indigenous energy utilization, and improving domestic natural gas supplies across Pakistan.
