Domestic gold prices in Pakistan recorded a sharp increase on Wednesday, closely tracking a strong rally in international bullion markets driven by a weakening US dollar and heightened investor demand ahead of key US labor market reports.
According to data released by the All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association (APSGJA), the price of 24-karat gold climbed by Rs 10,000 per tola, reaching an all-time high of Rs 437,936.
Similarly, the rate for 10 grams of 24-karat gold surged by Rs 8,573 to trade at Rs 375,459, marking one of the largest single-day price increases seen in the local market in recent months.
Global Rally and Fed Expectations
The local price jump mirrored broader international trends, where gold strengthened as the US Dollar Index weakened against a basket of major currencies, rendering dollar-denominated bullion more attractive to foreign buyers.
Key global market highlights include:
- US Gold Futures: December delivery contracts advanced 4 percent to $4,317.40 per ounce.
- Monetary Policy Drivers: Investors are closely watching upcoming US ADP private employment data and Non-Farm Payrolls (NFP) figures. Market analysts note that any indication of a cooling labor market could reinforce expectations of monetary easing by the US Federal Reserve, enhancing the non-yielding metal’s appeal.
- Supporting Factors: Bullion demand was further sustained by softer US Treasury yields, stabilizing energy costs, and broader safe-haven interest.
Exchange Rate Stability
While global bullion spiked, the Pakistani rupee maintained a steady trajectory against the US dollar in the interbank currency market.
According to official Mark-to-Market (M2M) exchange rates published by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) for August 5, 2026, the US dollar closed at Rs 277.75, virtually unchanged from Rs 277.76 reported on the previous business day.
Traders noted that while domestic currency movements remained muted, the sharp global price gain directly transmitted to Pakistan’s sarafa markets. Local dealers anticipate continued volatility over the coming sessions as international markets digest incoming economic data.
