Ghandhara Industries signs deal to sell UD Trucks

Ghandhara Industries Limited (GIL) has entered into a strategic partnership with UD Trucks Corporation to market and distribute the Japanese truck manufacturer’s completely built-up (CBU) vehicles in Pakistan.

According to a notice sent to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), Ghandhara Industries has formally signed a collaboration agreement with UD Trucks for the import and distribution of its trucks in the Pakistani market.

The company is expected to commence the import and distribution of UD Trucks in Pakistan from the first quarter of calendar year 2027.

The partnership is aimed at expanding Ghandhara Industries’ product portfolio and supporting its future growth prospects. The company currently operates in Pakistan’s commercial vehicle sector and is the authorised assembler and manufacturer of Isuzu vehicles in the country.

The return of UD Trucks to Pakistan marks a significant development for the country’s heavy commercial vehicle market. Ghandhara had previously been associated with UD trucks, but production was discontinued in 2017 following the discontinuation of the relevant model by UD Trucks.

Unlike local assembly, the new arrangement will initially involve CBU imports, meaning the trucks will be fully built outside Pakistan before being imported for sale and distribution in the domestic market.

The move comes as demand for commercial vehicles remains closely linked to activity in sectors including logistics, construction, transportation and trade. Ghandhara Industries’ expansion into another global truck brand could therefore strengthen its position in Pakistan’s competitive commercial vehicle market.

The company said the agreement represents an opportunity to broaden its offerings while contributing to its longer-term business growth.
