Pakistan and Google signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during a reception hosted by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to accelerate the nation's digital transformation and help achieve $30 billion in IT exports by 2030. Under the agreement, Google will expand its Google Career Certificates program to offer 150,000 certifications in 2026 and provide Pakistani students with one year of free access to advanced AI tools, including Google AI Plus and Gemini. Furthermore, both parties will establish an AI Centre of Excellence in Islamabad, create a joint task force to bolster global competitiveness, expand mobile gaming and e-commerce ecosystems, and deploy artificial intelligence for public service initiatives, such as Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) data analytics and agricultural crop monitoring. This agreement builds on Google's recent establishment of its first physical office in Pakistan.

The agreement was signed during a reception hosted in honour of the Google team under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. It supports the government’s goal of expanding Pakistan’s IT exports and digital economy to $30 billion by 2030.
Under the agreement, Google will expand its Google Career Certificates programme in Pakistan, with a target of providing 150,000 certificates in 2026. Pakistani students will also receive free access to advanced AI tools, including Google AI Plus and Gemini, for one year.
The two sides will also establish an AI Centre of Excellence in Islamabad to train young people and develop talent according to the requirements of global technology markets.
The MoU covers cooperation in several areas, including strengthening Pakistan’s mobile applications and gaming industry, expanding digital payments and e-commerce, and improving access for small and medium-sized businesses to international markets.
Google and Pakistan will also explore the use of artificial intelligence in public services, including data analytics for the Federal Board of Revenue’s digitisation programme.
In the agriculture sector, the cooperation will focus on using AI for crop monitoring, forecasting, and sustainable farming practices, potentially helping improve agricultural decision-making through digital technologies.
The government, Google, and other relevant stakeholders will establish a task force to develop a roadmap for improving Pakistan’s IT exports and global competitiveness.
The agreement comes shortly after Google opened its first local office in Pakistan, marking an expansion of the technology giant’s engagement with the country.
