BYD-Mega Motor Company crosses 10,000 vehicles on Pakistani roads in record time, paving the way for its upcoming $150 million local NEV assembly plant. BYD-Mega Motor Company (MMC) has announced a major market milestone, with 10,000 vehicles now active on Pakistani roads. Achieved in a remarkably short timeframe, the milestone marks the fastest market ramp-up by a new-entrant New Energy Vehicle (NEV) brand in Pakistan's automotive history. Since entering the market with the Atto 3 and Seal, the brand has expanded its local footprint to five model lines incorporating the top-selling Atto 2 EV, the Sealion 7, and the Shark 6 (Pakistan's first plug-in hybrid pickup). This rapid consumer adoption sets the stage for the next phase of growth: the upcoming development of a dedicated, large-scale NEV assembly facility in Gharo, Sindh, backed by an estimated $150 million investment to transition operations from imports to local manufacturing.
BYD-Mega Motor Company (MMC), the official partner of Chinese new energy vehicle maker BYD in Pakistan, has reached a milestone of 10,000 vehicles on Pakistani roads, marking what the company describes as the fastest ramp-up by a new entrant in Pakistan’s new energy vehicle (NEV) market.
BYD entered Pakistan with the Atto 3 and Seal and has since expanded its local portfolio to five models. The lineup now includes the Atto 2, Sealion 7 and Shark 6, with the latter positioned as Pakistan’s first plug-in hybrid pickup.
The milestone comes as demand for electric and hybrid vehicles grows in Pakistan. The Atto 2 has emerged as a leading EV in the local market, while the broader BYD lineup gives consumers options across SUV, sedan and pickup segments.
MMC CEO Aly Khan said reaching 10,000 vehicles reflects the progress made in developing the infrastructure, capabilities and market presence needed to support new energy mobility in Pakistan.
BYD Vice President and General Manager of its Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division Liu Xueliang said Pakistan had quickly become an important market in the company’s global expansion, adding that consumer confidence in the brand was significant to its local growth.
The company is now preparing for the next stage of its Pakistan expansion with a dedicated NEV assembly facility in Gharo, Sindh. The plant, backed by an investment of around $150 million, is expected to have annual production capacity of approximately 25,000 vehicles once operational.
The upcoming facility is expected to shift BYD-MMC’s operations from primarily importing vehicles towards local assembly, potentially supporting greater localisation and development of the domestic NEV supply chain.
The milestone also comes amid broader growth in Pakistan’s new-energy vehicle market, with other Chinese manufacturers expanding their presence ahead of planned local assembly operations. Pakistan’s government has said it wants BYD-MMC’s investment to contribute to technology transfer, job creation, industrial development and export growth.
